Peter M. Gannott is an attorney at Alber Crafton, PSC in Louisville, Kentucky, where he concentrates his practice on bankruptcy, financial restructuring and commercial transactions. He also has an active practice in the areas of fidelity and surety law, and commercial and construction litigation.

Pete is licensed to practice law in numerous states, including Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio, Missouri, Illinois, and West Virginia. He has been admitted to practice in U.S. District Courts for Colorado, Kentucky, Indiana, Southern District of Ohio, West Virginia, Missouri, Illinois, and Michigan, as well as the Sixth, Seventh and Tenth Circuit Courts of Appeals and the United States Supreme Court. He graduated with Honors from the University of Illinois with degrees in History and Political Science in 1983 and obtained his law degree from the Washington College of Law, American University, in Washington, D.C.

Pete’s bankruptcy experience includes serving as lead counsel for Chapter 7 and Chapter 11 trustees and official unsecured creditors' committee counsel. His creditors’ rights clients include banks, trade creditors, equipment lessors, commercial landlords, sureties and other secured and unsecured creditors. He has frequently litigated complex bankruptcy issues in connection with avoidance of preferential transfers, fraudulent conveyances, mortgages and liens, non-dischargeability actions and stay relief. His extensive experience with reorganization and liquidation of business entities extends to issues involving post-petition financing, cash collateral, asset sales, adequate protection, executory contracts and leases, and plan confirmation. Pete has represented clients before bankruptcy courts regionally, including matters pending in Kentucky, Indiana, Missouri, Illinois, Florida, Kansas, Michigan and Colorado. He has litigated these proceedings before the bankruptcy and district courts, Bankruptcy Appellate Panel and the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals.

Pete handles a wide variety of creditors’ rights disputes, including breach of contract, fraud, breach of fiduciary duty, usurpation of corporate opportunity, fraudulent transfers, piercing the corporate veil/alter ego, and RICO litigation. His background includes litigating lender liability claims, guarantees, mechanic’s liens, Uniform Commercial Code questions and real estate foreclosure actions. He has years of experience in defending against lender liability claims and claims brought under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, Fair Credit Reporting Act, and state consumer protection acts, as well as other claims asserted by debtors seeking to evade their payment obligations. He has tried jury and bench trials in state and federal courts.

As a frequent lecturer, Pete speaks in the areas of bankruptcy and creditors’ rights, and serves as an adjunct faculty member at the University of Louisville. He has also published articles discussing bankruptcy, the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and other debt collection issues.
